Baptism is the sacrament of initiation that welcomes the child as an adopted child of God. It is in baptism that the child becomes a new member of the Church. By the water, he/she is cleansed from original sin passed down by the sin of our first parents and made new by the power of the Paschal Mystery. As Christ died and rose, so do we die and rise in the waters, experiencing the mystery of Christ. Hereby, witness and testimony of the parents' faith, the child becomes a beloved child of God, and it is the parents' and godparents' responsibility to raise and educate the child to become a saint.
